we zijn er weer, CSW 53


Aanstaande maandag 3 maart gaat de CSW 53 van start bij de Verenigde Naties in New York. Op de hele wereld maken mensen zich nu op om af te reizen om hun bijdrage te leveren aan de discussies en onderhandelingen tussen de lidstaten. Daarnaast maken de NGO's van de gelegenheid gebruik om hun kennis met elkaar te delen tijdens de zogenaamde parallel events.

Net als vorig jaar, zal tijdens de CSW 53 met als thema "The Equal Sharing of Responsibilities of Women and Men, including care-giving in the context of HIV/AIDS" de WO=MEN blog door de aanwezige Nederlandse NGO's worden bijgehouden. Via de blog willen we jullie informeren over de officiële en minder officiële gebeurtenissen bij de CSW.

Aan het bezoek in New York is al een traject voorafgegaan. WO=MEN organiseerde samen met o.a Share-net en andere organisaties een aantal consultaties. Tijdens de consultaties spraken we vanuit onze eigen ervaringen en expertise over het thema van deze CSW. Het einddoel van de consultaties was een aantal aanbevelingen te formuleren om mee te geven aan de Nederlandse overheidsdelegatie. Die aanbevelingen zijn met de Nederlandse overheidsdelegatie besproken op een bijeenkomst bij het Ministerie van OCW op 19 februari.

Natuurlijk valt er in Nederland nog wel het een en ander te verbeteren op het gebied van het eerlijk verdelen van de zorgtaken. Maar ik realiseer me ook dat Nederland op het internationale niveau, de vrouwenrechten hoog op de agenda heeft staan en er zich hard voor maakt.

De overheidsdelegatie staat open voor de input van de aanwezige Nederlandse NGO’s. We gaan op de eerste dag van de CSW dan ook lunchen bij de permanente vertegenwoordiging van Nederland in New York, zodat we onze reacties op de draft agreed conclusies meteen kunnen delen. Die draft is namelijk pas een paar dagen geleden gepubliceerd.

Als bestuurslid van WO=MEN en programma medewerkster women’s human rights van de mensenrechtenorganisatie Aim for human rights, ga ik met twee petten op naar de CSW. Natuurlijk volg ik de onderhandelingen rond de draft agreed conclusions van de CSW53. maar ik zal ook twee panels verzorgen in het parallel programma, samen met partner organisaties van Aim for human rights.

ARTivism for Change: Creativity as Resistance at CSW69

Artwork "Who can I trust with my story?" from ArtVism in Uganda During the 69th CSW, the Our Voices Our Futures (OVOF) consortium organised a creative ARTivism for Change space where bold protest sign-making, intimate film screenings, and thought-provoking feminist dialogues blended together.
