WO=MEN in New York

Vorige week was Single SuperMom aanwezig bij de VN-top in New York, waar wereldleiders, beleidsmakers en maatschappelijke organisaties samenkwamen om te praten over de positie van vrouwen wereldwijd. Wij reisden af met een duidelijke missie: zorgen dat alleenstaande moeders en hun kinderen niet opnieuw worden genegeerd. Toch werden we in het officiële voorbereidende appraisal document van 126 pagina’s, opgesteld door de secretaris-generaal, slechts twee keer genoemd. Beide keren als passieve ontvangers van uitkeringen. Niet bepaald een volledig of rechtvaardig beeld van wie alleenstaande ouders werkelijk zijn en nodig hebben. Van de 7.000 bezoekers die wij uitnodigden voor ons evenement over alleenstaand moederschap, kwam nog geen handvol beleidsmakers of professionele activisten opdagen. On 10 March 2025 Britt Myren from Atria participated in the session: “Voices from Māori and Pacific Women and Girls of Aotearoa New Zealand - violence against women”. Indigenous women from New Zealand and the Pacific disproportionately experience domestic- and partner violence. The Māori living in New Zealand are part of a marginalized, stigmatized group that generally has lower income and lower levels of education. While 1 in 3 women in New Zealand experience gender-based violence, Māori women have a 55% chance of experiencing violence in their lives. In the Pacific islands these rates are similar and in some cases even higher.   Joke de Ruiter presenteert haar pitch Tijdens een levendige briefing op 27 januari 2025 voor NGO's in Nederland over de 69e VN Commissie voor de Status van Vrouwen (CSW), presenteerden diverse experts hun pitches met aanbevelingen aan de delegatie voor de komende CSW-onderhandelingen. Alle 6 de pitches staan hier (in het Nederlands of Engels) op deze CSW blogpagina. De vierde pitch werd gegeven door Joke de Ruiter, voorzitter van de stichting Oudere Vrouwen netwerk Nederland (OVN). OVN, opgericht in 2001, brengt vrouwen samen afkomstig uit ouderenbonden en organisaties van vrouwen uit minderheidsgroepen in Nederland. Het netwerk is lid van de Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad ( NVR ) en in Brussel van Age Platform Europe. Over 7,000 people from all over the world gathered in New York to discuss the 2024 priority theme: “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.” This years’ negotiations were a nail biter. Towards the end, everyone was on the edge of their seats not knowing whether there would even be a resolution document. After a week of painstaking negotiations to reach consensus on how to achieve the theme, Nigeria almost blocked the adoption of the resolution document for reasons that weren’t made known. Op 15 maart 2024 presenteerde de Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad het online parallel event ‘Stop gender gerelateerd geweld: adresseer vrouwenarmoede en afhankelijkheid’ tijdens de Commission on the Status of Women 2024. Lewi Vogelpoel, strategisch adviseur van de Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad, vertegenwoordiger van VNVA (lidorganisatie van de Nederlandse Vrouwen Raad) en medeorganisator van het event, schreef een korte terugblik: Single Supermom had een waardevolle bijdrage met drie sprekers. Floris Brussaard deelde zijn persoonlijke kijk op hoe het is voor een kind om in armoede te leven. Minister Dijkgraaf (OCW) schud de hand van ngo-vertegenwoordiger Gijs Verbraak Zo, de eerste week van de CSW68 zit erop. Een leuke en drukke week!  Side events   De eerste dagen heb ik vooral evenementen bijgewoond om informatie op te halen. Er worden hier heel veel bijeenkomsten, ‘side events’ genoemd, georganiseerd door overheden en door het maatschappelijke middenveld en activisten.  Ik heb veel geluisterd naar en gesproken met vrouwen en meisjes die te maken hebben met discriminatie en achterstelling. Vrouwen en meisjes die door het systeem in armoede leven. Of die niet worden geaccepteerd simpelweg door wie ze zijn, wat ze doen of van wie ze houden. Aangrijpende verhalen die het belang van de CSW onderstrepen.  Ook heb ik als vertegenwoordiger van het Nederlandse maatschappelijke middenveld in de delegatie deelgenomen aan een aantal officiële gesprekken zoals samen met de Nederlandse jongerenvertegenwoordiger Fenna Timsi met minister Dijkgraaf van Onderwijs, ...
