CSW60 en de werelddoelen: 192 meningen

Dinsdag 22 maart - De onderhandelingen over de Agreed Conclusions zijn weer in volle gang waar de Beijing Platform for Action leidend in is. Voor diegenen die niet weet wat de Beijing agenda is: dit is een resolutie over de gelijkheid tussen vrouwen en mannen opgesteld aan het einde van de Wereldvrouwenconferentie in 1995.

192 meningen over gendergelijkheid in de werelddoelen

192 lidstaten van de VN die dit jaar praten over hoe ze ‘gendergelijkheid kunnen verankeren in de Agenda 2030, ofwel de Sustainable Development Goals’; de werelddoelen die vorig jaar september door de VN lidstaten in New York zijn aangenomen. Spannende onderhandelingen omdat er 192 verschillende meningen zijn. Hoewel, landen zijn wel gegroepeerd. Zo hebben we natuurlijk de EU, waar Nederland natuurlijk onderdeel van is, de African Group, de G77 (Group of 77) en sinds dit jaar ook de Mountain group, een samenwerking tussen landen die allemaal bergen hebben, als IJsland, Zwitserland, Noorwegen, Nieuw Zeeland, Australië en nog veel meer. Op sommige punten spreekt de Mountain zij als blok, op sommige punten afzonderlijk. De EU spreekt namens alle 28 lidstaten. Omdat Nederland dit jaar voorzitter is, mocht minister Jet Bussemaker als vierde dit jaar bij de opening haar statement geven. Zie het volledige statement op onze website.

5 dagen voor overeenstemming

De onderhandelingen zijn vorige week vrijdag begonnen en duren elke dag tot in de late uurtjes omdat er veel besproken moet worden in vijf dagen. Belangrijk voor ons, Nederlands maatschappelijk middenveld, is natuurlijk dat ‘gelijke rechten en kansen voor mannen en vrouwen, meisjes en jongens in al hun diversiteit’ verankerd worden in deze doelen en de vele verschillende thema’s die deze agenda behelst. Zoals seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid en rechten, klimaatverandering, seksuele geaardheid, conflictsituaties, voor migranten, voor vluchtelingen, etc.

Mag geweld achter gesloten deuren?

Er is veel discussie gaande omdat er door landen in Afrika of Midden-Oosten heel anders gedacht wordt over bijvoorbeeld het gebruik van anticonceptie of condooms dan in Europa. Of over geweld tegen vrouwen: sommige landen vinden het normaal dat er achter de deur zelf bepaald mag worden of er geweld gebruikt wordt onder het mom van religie of traditie. Dit is voor Nederland en de Europese Unie bijvoorbeeld een no go area.

En zo nog vele andere onderwerpen. De delegatieleden komen nu naar buiten. Dus snel horen hoe het ze binnen vergaat....
