Florine Keus van Stem op een Vrouw vertelt over hun strategieën

Opnieuw een verslag hier van Linda Brouwers die samen met Cathrien Resius als vertegenwoordigers van de Unie van Soroptimistclubs aanwezig zijn bij de 70ste Commission of the Status of Women (CSW70) van de Verenigde Naties in New York. 

“Afgelopen week woonde ik het parallel event bij: Full force ahead for women’s leadership and decision-making door, georganiseerd door alliantie Politica.

Symbolische verbindingen 

Linda Senden begon met een presentatie over hoe onze maatschappij feitelijk gebaseerd is op een complex systeem is van symbolische verbindingen (wires) die vrouwen ingekaderd houdt. De regels, het beleid en de instituties die hieruit zijn ontstaan houden genderongelijkheid, ongelijke juridische systemen en een mannelijke dominantie in leiderschap in balans.

Verandering begint met een analyse om vervolgens een nationaal actieplan op te stellen voor een “re-wiring”. Zoals een gendersensitief parlement, quota, een goede leef/werk balans, het herdefiniëren van goed leiderschap. Om verandering te realiseren moet je helemaal bij het begin beginnen!

De kracht van de voorkeursstem

Florine Keus legt uit hoe “Stem op een Vrouw” een initiatief is dat is ontstaan in Suriname. Het werd daar een zo’n groot succes dat het ook in Nederland geïntroduceerd werd. De strategie is om eerst de partij te kiezen waar je op wil stemmen en vervolgens een vrouwelijke kandidaat lager op de lijst die door je voorkeursstem verkozen kan worden.

Dit werd ook in Nederland een groot succes: in 2017 3 extra vrouwen in de 2e Kamer; in 2018 100 extra vrouwen in de gemeenteraden; in 2019 3 extra vrouwen in het Europese Parlement; in 2021 3 extra vrouwen in de 2e Kamer; in 2022 459 extra vrouwen in de gemeenteraden; en in 2026 een record aantal vrouwen in de 2e kamer! 

Dus bij de komende gemeenteraadsverkiezingen: Stem op een Vrouw!”

De boodschap uit New York is duidelijk: meer vrouwen in leiderschap vraagt om structurele verandering én gerichte actie. En daar zetten wij ons elke dag opnieuw voor in!

ARTivism for Change: Creativity as Resistance at CSW69

Artwork "Who can I trust with my story?" from ArtVism in Uganda During the 69th CSW, the Our Voices Our Futures (OVOF) consortium organised a creative ARTivism for Change space where bold protest sign-making, intimate film screenings, and thought-provoking feminist dialogues blended together.
