Gebrek aan fondsen voor vrouwenkenniscentra belemmering BPfA

CSW 52 gaat over de financering van gender equality en women's empowerment. Het Beijing Platform for Action (1995)bevat goede afspraken, maar de uitvoering wordt belemmerd door het ontbreken van financieel commitment daarvoor.Winst is dat de VN erkent dat de uitvoering van de Platform for Action tegen wordt gehouden doordat er te weinig middelen zijn. Dat weten de vrouwen NGOs al te goed. Financiering voor vrouwenorganisaties wordt steeds moeilijker en financiering voor vrouweninformatiecentra ook. Een 'adequate resourced gender knowledge infrastructure' is onontbeerlijk voor de uitvoering van de Beijing Platform for Action. In de praktijk blijkt, zo weten we van de 400 vrouweninformatieinstellingen in de Know How Community, dat de emancipatie kennisinfrastructuur zwaar onder druk is komen te staan, ook in Nederland. Tijdens de Know How Conferentie 2006 in Mexico is besloten om dit probleem onder de aandacht van de VN bekend te brengen.
Lin McDevitt-Pugh kreeg op 3 maart spreektijd, namens een aantal geaccrediteerde NGO's. NGOs werden niet toegelaten tot de zwaar bewaakte vergaderzaal of publieke tribune. Omdat tijdens de eerste CSW-week minder dan 10 NGO's de CSW mochten toespreken, was nog een handjevol NGO-sprekers, die zich ruim te voren hadden aangemeld, uitgenodigd hun 3 minuten statement te komen afleggen. Om in VN-processen te mogen participeren moeten NGOs door een strenge selectieprocedure heen. Eenmaal toegang hebben tot het gebouw betekent nog geen toegang tot de vergaderingen. Nooit eerder is in zo'n vroeg stadium, de eerste dag van de tweede week, de deur gesloten voor NGO's. Massaal protest heeft vooralsnog geen open deuren opgeleverd.

Na publikatie van de tekst van de interventie van Lin (Investing in Information) namens een aantal geaccrediteerde Nederlandse NGO's op het weblog van WO=MEN in New York kwamen er van allerlei kanten enthousiaste reacties. Zo liet het secretariaat van WO=MEN weten graag bij deze tekst aan te sluiten. Ook Aim for Human Rights, de nieuwe naam voor het Humanistisch Overleg Mensenrechten, liet weten veel belang te hechten aan het statement.

ARTivism for Change: Creativity as Resistance at CSW69

Artwork "Who can I trust with my story?" from ArtVism in Uganda During the 69th CSW, the Our Voices Our Futures (OVOF) consortium organised a creative ARTivism for Change space where bold protest sign-making, intimate film screenings, and thought-provoking feminist dialogues blended together. Over two days, March 12 and 13, 2025, artists, activists, and allies transformed the space into dynamic real-life canvases of empowerment, solidarity, and cultural and political resistance.   In the main space of the Blue Gallery participants engaged with various stations, including Button Making , Journaling with Art , Drawing , and Protest Sign Making . "Beat back the radicals!"

“We will beat back the radicals and we will fight all their falsehoods and we will help as best we can all the faithful UN delegations trying to help the unborn child. But, the Friday Fax and our presence at UN headquarters is not free. In fact, it is terribly expensive. Would you be able to make a sacrificial donation to our work of $500? $100? $50?” This quote is from a newsletter of an American based organization working to stop any agreement at the UN that might possibly be understood to mean that women can have a choice in their  reproduction. It is quite ironic to see the violence in the language, beat back the radicals, from a group who are working at the UN meeting devoted to ending Violence Against Women. Being here at the UN makes you feel in your body and soul that maintaining and advancing freedom of choice for women (and men) is a battle and not everyone fights fair.
