CSW67 Pitch: Digitale rechten en toegang vanuit het perspectief van sekswerkers

Tijdens de NGO briefing op 26 januari 2023 werd er gepitcht aan de Nederlandse CSW67 delegatie met aanbevelingen vanuit het maatschappelijk middenveld. Zij hadden een duidelijke boodschap: betrek ons en neem mensenrechten in digitale ruimten serieus.

Yvette Luhrs van Soa Aids Nederland en UglyMugs.nl benadrukt het belang van toegang tot digitale platforms voor het werk én de veiligheid van sekswerkers.

"Websites als Facebook, Instagram, Airbnb, PayPal, Google Drive hebben geen moeite om sekswerkers de toegang tot hun account te ontzeggen. Ook bij het Commissiedebat Mensenhandel en Prostitutie werd vorige week geroepen dat de Nederlandse regering online sekswerk platforms strenger zou moeten aanpakken.

Maar volgens The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children blijkt dat er op de grootste porno websites gezamenlijk ongeveer 10.000 keer mogelijk seksueel kindermisbruik werd aangetroffen. Ten opzichte van, schrik niet, 22,5 miljoen keer op Facebook alleen al.

Dat dat verschil zo groot is verrast mij niet. Want alle grote adult websites houden zich al jaren aan de Amerikaanse wet Title 18 USC § 2257.

Nee, dit is dus niet de veel nieuwere anti-trafficking wet FOSTA SESTA. Die de opsporing van zowel dader als slachtoffers bemoeilijkt en sekswerkers overlevert aan de straat en uitbuiters. Maar dat is ander verhaal.

In het kader van Title 18 USC § 2257 moest ik bij alle de zes de cam-en content websites waar ik mee samenwerk, twee verschillende pasfoto's, twee vormen van officiële identificatie, een huishoudrekening én mijn Nederlandse bankgegevens overdragen. Voordat ik ook maar iets online kon zetten.

Gisteren probeerde ik voor de vorm ook een Onlyfans account aan te maken. Toen ze via een app een 3-D scan van mijn gezicht probeerde te maken heb ik het maar even gelaten.

Ik vrees voor wat er bedoeld wordt met ‘strenger aanpakken’.

Sekswerkers gebruiken online platforms niet alleen om geld te verdienen maar ook om klanten te screenen, veilig te blijven, in contact te zijn met collega’s en zich, vaak wereldwijd, te verenigen en kennis te delen over sekswerkbeleid.

In Nederland hebben we tegenwoordig het platform UglyMugs.nl. Hier kunnen sekswerkers gewelddadige klanten melden, controleren of een potentiële klant al bekend staat als gevaarlijk, en kunnen ze ondersteuning krijgen bij het doen van een aangifte of het vinden van hulpverlening. Het kostte 3 jaar aan onderhandelen met de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens voordat het project online mocht.

Toegang tot het internet is voor sekswerkers geen vanzelfsprekendheid. Maar het is noodzakelijk dat onze rechten gewaarborgd worden en onze daadwerkelijke veiligheid leidend wordt voor (online) sekswerkbeleid."
