CSW67 Pitch: Laat seksuele vorming niet vallen in onderhandelingen over onderwijs in een digitale wereld


Tijdens de NGO briefing op 26 januari 2023 werd er gepitcht aan de Nederlandse CSW67 delegatie met aanbevelingen vanuit het maatschappelijk middenveld. Zij hadden een duidelijke boodschap: betrek ons en neem mensenrechten in digitale ruimten serieus. 

Karin van de Velde van Rutgers begon met de vraag: 

"Wie van jullie heeft er wel eens een dickpic ontvangen? (En wie van jullie weet wat een dickpic is?)"

"Of we nu op zoek zijn of niet: seksueel getinte filmpjes en beelden belanden op onze smartphones en laptops. Waar in een grijs verleden het aanbod voor jongeren bestond uit een bibliotheekboekje hebben ze nu een overweldigend groot aanbod online. Jongeren scrollen op socials zoals TikTok en googelen, chatten, appen en snappen heel wat af. Ze delen seksueel getinte foto’s en filmpjes en kijken porno. Waar in andere landen ouders vaak over de schouders van hun kinderen en in het bijzonder meisjes meekijken, zijn in Nederland jongeren redelijk vrij om dit zelfstandig te ontdekken. De online wereld is niet meer los te denken van hun vriendschappen, relaties en seksleven.  


Er zijn ontelbaar veel sites waar jongeren terecht kunnen voor informatie en veel hiervan staan vol met onwaarheden, met alle risico's van dien. Daarnaast circuleren bijvoorbeeld deepfakes: seksfilmpjes van mensen die zo zijn bewerkt dat het líjkt alsof zij in die video zitten zonder dat ze hiervan weten of dit willen. 


Uit onderzoek blijkt dat jongeren willen leren over online communicatie en seks in de media. In Nederland zijn onderwijsinstellingen verplicht om aandacht te hebben voor seksualiteit, diversiteit en seksuele diversiteit sinds 2012. Hoe dit wordt ingevuld verschilt per onderwijsinstelling. Het is momenteel niet verplicht in de bovenbouw terwijl juist dan jongeren meer romantisch geïnteresseerd zijn en seksueel actief worden. Wij zouden dit ook graag in de bovenbouw verplicht zien. 


Voor CSW67, willen wij jullie steun om seksuele vorming niet ondergesneeuwd te laten raken door alle onderwerpen die vallen onder het thema van dit jaar. Seksuele vorming aankaarten in multilaterale onderhandelingen vergt een dappere en vooruitziende instelling en wij hopen ook dit jaar weer te kunnen rekenen op de Nederlandse delegatie om met het Nederlandse track record op dit thema het verschil te kunnen maken."

ARTivism for Change: Creativity as Resistance at CSW69

Artwork "Who can I trust with my story?" from ArtVism in Uganda During the 69th CSW, the Our Voices Our Futures (OVOF) consortium organised a creative ARTivism for Change space where bold protest sign-making, intimate film screenings, and thought-provoking feminist dialogues blended together.
