CSW67 Pitch: Jongeren & de digitale wereld: risico’s & kansen


Tijdens de NGO briefing op 26 januari 2023 werd er gepitcht aan de Nederlandse CSW67 delegatie met aanbevelingen vanuit het maatschappelijk middenveld. Zij hadden een duidelijke boodschap: betrek ons en neem mensenrechten in digitale ruimten serieus.

Fenna Timsi, van de Nationale Jeugdraad én de CSW67 Jongerenvertegenwoordiger, benadrukt het belang van educatie in het veiliger maken van digitale ruimten en hoe de rol van jongeren essentieel is in dit proces.

"Vorige week sprak ik met een meisje dat niet meer naar school durfde omdat zij zoveel last heeft gehad van “shaming”. Uitgeteld en afgezonderd. Maar zij is helaas niet de enige. Op sociale media worden duizenden foto’s en video’s verspreid van onder andere minderjarige meisjes. 


De online wereld maakt ruimte voor veel risico’s op het gebied van mensen- en vrouwenrechten. Hoe spelen we in op die onveiligheid? De manier waarop jongeren meer en meer digitaal in contact staan vraagt om wereldwijde Comprehesive Sexual Education (CSW). CSE zorgt ervoor dat jongeren ondersteund en beschermd worden in hun seksuele ontwikkeling. Het helpt ze om kritisch te zijn tegenover misleidende informatie en tegenstrijdige berichten over seksualiteit en relaties. Het helpt om geïnformeerd te zijn en om begane burgers te zijn met respect voor mensenrechten. Het helpt het tegengaan van on- en offline geweld tegen vrouwen. 


Digitalisering is niet alleen een risico voor vrouwenrechten, maar ook een kans. Jongeren zijn experts van hun eigen leefruimte en hebben veel inzicht in hoe technologie werkt. Ze zijn behalve slachtoffer van technologie, een deel van de oplossing. Gebruik de supersnelle technologie van nu om CSE voor iedereen toegankelijk te maken en degenen op de meeste achterstand te bereiken. Veel jongeren die ik spreek, vinden bij gebrek aan goede educatie over gender en seksualiteit hun informatie en ideeën online. Laten we dan ook zorgen dat dit toegankelijk is voor iedereen. 


En bovenal: in al deze processen, betrek jongeren. We hebben vaak heel scherpe analyses en innovatieve ideeën. Jongeren zouden actief betrokken moeten worden in CSE toegankelijk maken voor iedereen. Beleid zou niet alleen een  intergenerationeel, maar ook een intersectioneel dialoog moeten zijn.  


Alleen door samenwerking kunnen we naar gendergelijkheid streven en jonge vrouwen en meisjes versterken in hun positie, al helemaal in de digitaliserende wereld."

ARTivism for Change: Creativity as Resistance at CSW69

Artwork "Who can I trust with my story?" from ArtVism in Uganda During the 69th CSW, the Our Voices Our Futures (OVOF) consortium organised a creative ARTivism for Change space where bold protest sign-making, intimate film screenings, and thought-provoking feminist dialogues blended together. Over two days, March 12 and 13, 2025, artists, activists, and allies transformed the space into dynamic real-life canvases of empowerment, solidarity, and cultural and political resistance.   In the main space of the Blue Gallery participants engaged with various stations, including Button Making , Journaling with Art , Drawing , and Protest Sign Making . "Beat back the radicals!"

“We will beat back the radicals and we will fight all their falsehoods and we will help as best we can all the faithful UN delegations trying to help the unborn child. But, the Friday Fax and our presence at UN headquarters is not free. In fact, it is terribly expensive. Would you be able to make a sacrificial donation to our work of $500? $100? $50?” This quote is from a newsletter of an American based organization working to stop any agreement at the UN that might possibly be understood to mean that women can have a choice in their  reproduction. It is quite ironic to see the violence in the language, beat back the radicals, from a group who are working at the UN meeting devoted to ending Violence Against Women.
